Mountain song

This is my new book, Mountain song.
It's a papercut book with each section handsewn and also sewn again directly to the spine.

This book sort of becomes a tunnel when viewed from the first and last page with other pages layered on to the other.

Also I discovered it makes lovely shadows under sunshine.
It's one of my dream to make works entirely with shadows!

It's a smallish book, 13cm x 10cm, bigger than my other books.
Please have a look at more images of this book on my website.

Favorite things

detail, foxes
Favorite things is my new miniature artist book sitting at Artisan Books on 159 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy, Victoria.
detail, starry bird
It's a coptic binding book where papers are sewn through their folds, and attached to each other with chain stitch linkings across the spine.
The good thing about this binding is it opens flat, in fact without the covers, it can open 360 degrees.

Each page has collages and some drawings with colour pencils.

detail, two birds
As the title suggests, it's full of my favorite things and drawings.
I'm a little embarrassed to say this but a few people know that the title of this book comes from my on and off obsession from the movie Sound of music...

New obsession and recent acquisition

I'm now so into sewing. I hadn't touched a needle and thread since primary school homemaking course (I don't think there is such a class here, is there?). I used to really believe I'd never ever sew in my life as a kid so I always got other students who like sewing to complete my work for me in school.... But here I am, so obsessed with it. Whenever I'm at home, I'm looking for clothes that I never wear anymore and cutting and sewing. I found it realIy calming, and I think I can learn to be more patient too. I do need patience as I'm learning to drive!! And after bit of bleeding fingers, I managed to make a tool bag!! Looks really thick and bulky, ugly and wonky but I'm pretty proud that I've finished something that I never thought I would be able to!

And my recent acquisition, Green garnet. I never knew there was a garnet other than red! Been trying to collect garnet because it's my mum's birth stone, January. So this will end up being in her collection box. Mine is aquamarine, March but haven't seen any that's in a rough state, before polishing and affordable:(
