Curious arrangements

I'm having an exhibition of all my works created during the Dowd Foundation Scholarship at Australian Print Workshop last year with Nina Magee who received APW Collie Print Trust Scholarship for Emerging Victorian Printmakers.

In the 3 months I was at APW, I made 9 etchings of various sizes and 2 lithographs printed by Simon White, senior printer of APW.

I would LOVE to see you if you are in town!

Australian Print Workshop

This year I have been awarded Dowd Foundation Scholarship to work at Australian Print Workshop for three months.
I feel so fortunate and honoured to receive such a prestigious award.

It has been fantastic to be able to work full-time on my print work as I haven't worked on my prints for a while as I was busy with creating artist books and collaborative prints in the past few months.

And I get to work with Simon the master printer at APW to produce two prints.
I've decided to create lithographs as this is something I wouldn't be able to do on my own and it is quite ambitious for me.

I've been drawing plates at the moment but I'll soon be printing there so if you are in the neighbourhood, please pop in for a chat between Wednesday to Saturday!

The Bird Room

My fellow printmaker Bridget Farmer and I are having an exhibition called The Bird Room opening on Saturday 5 October at Faulkner Gallery in Castlemaine, Victoria.

I'm very pleased that we can finally have a show together after admiring her work so long.

When we first met, Bridget was studying her MFA and I was doing my last year of BFA at RMIT University in 2007, but we really started getting to know each other at Australian Print Workshop in 2008.
She was working there after being awarded her Australian Print Workshop Collie Print Trust Scholarship and I was trying to keep my print practice going after graduating from uni.
Since then we've talking about our love for birds and animals and finally we get to have a show together!

Bakeneko day and night

Bakeneko at 2am
Cat is one of the animals that often become yokai (supernatural monsters) in Japanese folklores, along with fox, Japanese raccoon dog, spider and snake.

Bakeneko is a yokai that an ordinary cat transforms into.
Once transformed, Bakeneko walks with hind legs, talks like human, dances with tenugui around head, controls dead people, curses, attacks human with a wolf pack and so on.
There are also stories where Bakeneko played sumo with human too.
Bakeneko
I've made two edition called Bakeneko and Bakeneko at 2am.

First I made Bakeneko, as part of Impression fund raising exhibition at Australian Print Workshop.
Then I wanted to put this cat in a different setting, so I turned the sky into night time for the second edition, Bakeneko at 2am.
2am points around the hour of Ox in zodiac - even plants and trees are asleep, that's when we consider suitable time for demons and monsters to lurk around..

Bakeneko will be exhibited at Australian Print Workshop from the end of this month along with over 160 artists.
It's a great opportunity to buy prints at an affordable cost ($100, $150 or $200).
I've already seen what my friends Bridget Farmer and Damon Kowarsky have done for this show. Looking really lovely!
All works are edition of 10, so be quick or they will be sold out!
