Athenaeum Library

Photograph by Harvard Wang
I had one of the most amazing time during my residency at the Athenaeum Library last week.
I met so many wonderful people from here, interstates as well as overseas throughout the week, as we had Rare Book Week, AIDS Conference, the Nite Art and Open House Melbourne all coincided in one week!

Thank you so so much everyone at the Athenaeum Library, especially Sue, Tom, James, Clare and so many lovely volunteer people.
I felt so respected and supported throughout the week and it was such a privilege to be able to work in a place where I could see the weight of the history.
It was so fortunate to have taken part in such a great program in the exciting week!

Special thank you to one of my oldest friends and my favourite photographer in Melbourne, Harvard Wang who took lots of beautiful photos of the library and my work.

Life Along the River

Suite of etchings I made with Damon Kowarsky called Along the River is going to Hong Kong for an exhibition titled Life Along the River from 6 to 30 March at Odd One Out and Aesop Hong Kong.

Life Along the River is a collaborative suite of 14 etchings and an accompanying zine. The prints and zine are based on Damon's drawings of the riverside architecture of Kyoto, Japan with artistic interventions by Kyoko.
The drawings were made during our research trip to Japan in 2011 and 2013.

There will be a permanent installation at Aesop Head office in Hong Kong too.
Permanent installation and selected prints from the suite will be at Aesop Head office in Hong Kong from 4 March.
Please join us see the installation with refreshments on 6 March, 6:30 - 8:30pm.

The complete suite of Along the River can be viewed at Odd One Out from 6 - 30 March.
You are all welcome to come to the opening party on 7 March, 7:00 - 9:00pm.

Adore - opening

Thank you so much for coming to the exhibition opening at Bird's Gallery earlier this week!
It was amazing to see many new as well as familiar faces.

Thank you so much also to the gallery owner and artist Brigita La made such a lovely space and turn this opening into a great event!

Another special thank you to Jazmina Cininas, artist and my ex-lecturer at RMIT University, who made a sweet and warm speech to open my exhibition.

She is in fact my first teacher who showed me the inky world of printmaking in TAFE back in 2004.
I then followed her to do my Bachelor of Fine Art in printmaking where she moved from TAFE.

It was fun to listen to her when she read my work assessment written by her as well as her first impression on me.

Thank you so much to everyone! It's become such an unforgettable event for me.

Trish Roan

Trish Roan is a Canberra based artist who primarily works with glass and found objects to create installation and kinetic sculpture.
She studied at Australian National University and since graduating she's been working in her studio at Anca and Canberra Glassworks.

She's been very busy this year as she had her solo as well as group exhibitions recently.
These are the images from her recent solo show.
hum, Trish Roan
To me, she is an artist in the sense of scientists or amateur scholars in the Victorian era who observed and recorded everyday phenomena in the world they saw.

Her work makes me notice things that are usually invisible to our eyes or hard to see if you don't pay attention, such as the earth moving, position of the sun in different seasons etc.
Her work doesn't yell, rather it sits in the corner of my brain and helps me realise how things, even seemingly worthless things in everyday life, can be worth spending the time to savour.
